Hi, I’m Rissa, the creator behind Grave Moon Studios.Grave Moon Studios is an independent horror production studio based in Chicago, Illinois.I am building Grave Moon Studios because I believe some of the most uncomfortable horror already exists around us. We see and feel it in grief, loneliness, abuse, broken promises, and even the lies people uphold while insisting everything is perfectly fine when it isn't.We call these things normal, and I find that really interesting...and a little scary.My work explores the everyday fears and experiences we tend to accept as ordinary, even when there is nothing ordinary about them. Horror doesn't always need blood, violence or a gore fest. Are these valid forms of expression in storytelling? Absolutely, and there is a reason those forms of storytelling resonate. In the work produced here, horror will be approached a little differently.Sometimes the monster is a person. Sometimes it's a memory you can't shake, or a place you haven't visited in years...Growing up in Puerto Rican culture taught me that fiction, laughter, suspense, myths, demons, and rituals, can all give shape to things that can't be explained, that traditions carry wisdom and hold a deeply sacred significance, and that history rooted in pain can be acknowledged without requiring us to romanticize it.There is something eerie and precious about the way stories help us find meaning in experiences that might otherwise have no explanation. Sometimes the strange and unusual gives us an honest way to talk about things that are human at their core.This ideology helps shape everything I create.Grave Moon Studios is where the unexplained, the horrific, and even pieces of my own memories are given room to become something else through storytelling, audio, film, voice, and music. My inspiration might come from history, culture, personal experience, a place I can't forget, or a face I can't forget. When inspiration arises, I follow it down a deep, dark rabbit hole and come out the other side with a blueprint... and then I get to work.Creatively, it works quite well.For my sleep schedule, not so much. Thank goodness for coffee.My projects range from original fiction and audio storytelling to independent film, voice performance, and music, allowing each idea to take a form that feels authentic to what I want to create.As a woman-owned, Puerto Rican-led brand inspired by Chicago, world history, myths, lore, architecture, cryptids, the dead, and all things noir, Grave Moon Studios is a place to experiment, create independently, and tell stories from perspectives that haven't always been given a seat at the Horror table.Grave Moon Studios welcomes everyone who finds comfort and familiarity in the strange and mysterious.If any of this resonates, welcome.
